Traditional medicine, also known as conventional or Western medicine, is the type of medicine that we have grown most accustomed to. This type of medicine focuses on symptoms or individual disease states and will often break the body down into separate parts. Sometimes patients will see a specialist for each of those parts (i.e. gastroenterology, cardiology, orthopedics). Medications are used frequently to treat patient symptoms, in the hopes of addressing the illness or disease. Traditional medicine is very effective when patients have acute illnesses.
